Castell Dinas Bran ruin - the start and finish point
By gofar standards this is a relatively moderate round of some 30 miles and 6000' of climbing. What it lacks in difficulty it makes up for in character as the rollercoaster route dips and weaves its way round the steep-sided valleys and limestone crags that encircle the meandering River Dee. It starts and finishes at the top of the impressive hill-top ruin of Castell Dinas Bran overlooking Llangollen and takes in the ten 500 metre plus hills in the area. Following mostly well-defined tracks it offers a good introduction to long-dstance running for the newcomer or, a great training day out for the more seasoned runner.
The objective is to start and finish at the hill-top ruin of Castell Dinas Bran (grid reference 223 431) and visit the 10 summits listed below. Use in conjunction with Explorer maps (1:25000): 255 Langollen & Berywyn and 256 Wrexham & Llangollen. The path from the trig on Eglwyseg Mountain goes over the higher point of 511m.
