The Great North Inns Run Lakes - Dales
This high-level traverse links together four of the north's oldest and best known inns: The Kirkstone Pass Inn, the highest in the Lakes, The Cross Keys Inn at the foot of the Howgills, The Moorcock Inn at Garsdale Head and The Old Hill Inn in the heart of Three Peaks country. It involves climbing 20 summits, including nine Marilyn hills, ascending 11,000 feet and traversing some 50 miles of the roughest terrain in the Lakes and Dales. Tony Wimbush devised the route as a companion to the Tan Hill Inn to Kirkstone Inn route with which it mostly coincides, in a reverse direction, during the first half. It was first completed in October 2015 by Tony Wimbush and Mark Dalton as an unsupported run taking 17 hours 41minutes.
The object is to link the Kirkstone Pass, Cross Keys, Moorcock and Old Hill Inns by taking in the 20 summits listed below. The Marilyn hills, which have a minimum drop of 492' on all sides, are denoted by *. Use OS Explorer maps (1:25000): The English Lakes - south eastern area OL7, Howgill Fells & Upper Eden Valley OL19 and Yorkshire Dales - Southern & Western areas OL2

This is an informal challenge without registrations or time limits although arriving at the Old Hill Inn before last orders will be a great incentive! Why not share your experience on facebook to encourage and inspire other runners to have a go!
