Andy's Southern Fells Challenge South Lakes
This was a run completed on 5th September 2018 by Rob McKeever of Black Combe Runners in memory of his late son Andrew who used to run with him occasionally in the fells. The challenge which covers a distance of some 37 miles with 10,000 feet of ascent was completed in a time of 13 hours 56 minutes. It explores 30 of the South-western fells of the Lake District with the first half comprising mostly of lesser known fells and crags. Although the going is generally good there are indistinct or no paths in some parts of the first half. Navigational skills are required but virtually all the fells are visible from the preceding ones in clear conditions. The run starts at Whicham Church at the foot of Black Combe and traverses the far South West Fells before crossing to the Coniston Fells and finishing at Broughton Mills. See below for link to Rob's route summary
The route starts at Whicham (GR 134 825) and finishes at Broughton Mills (GR 223 906). Use OS Explorer (1:25000) map OL6: Th English Lakes South-western area.
