Dartmoor Round.jpg

Early Morning, Branscombe's Loaf (Jon Croome)

While most of the country was preparing to party on the eve of the new Millenium in 1999 Nigel Jenkins of Axe Valley Runners had a different sort of celebration in mind! He was out on Dartmoor notching up the first completion of a new 24 hour round of 28 Tors. Starting from the Royal Oak in Meavy he arrived back just 18 hours 3 minutes later to join in with the festivities. His run involved some 75 miles of arduous moorland terrain and approximately 12,000 feet of climbing. The round was repeated more recently by Jon Croome in 2017 - see below for his account in The Fellrunner.
